What
we Believe
Articles
of Faith
Each
person, in order to become and remain a member of First Baptist
church, shall subscribe to the following declaration of faith:
We
believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the supreme
and final authority in matters of faith and practice.
We
believe in One True God, eternal and infinite in every excellence.
That in the unity of the Godhead there are three personal distinctions:
the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We
affirm the absolute Deity of Jesus Christ, His eternal pre-existence,
His Virgin Birth, Sinless Life, Vicarious and Atoning Death, sufficient
Mediator between God and man. We believe in His personal, visible,
pre-millennial return to earth, and that Salvation is the gift of
God's grace through faith in Him.
We
believe in the Personality of the Holy Spirit and that His ministry
is to reveal Christ to men; to convince them of Sin in order to
affect Repentance and Inspire Faith in Christ for the regeneration
of their souls and the sanctification of their conduct.
We
believe that Baptism is immersion of the Believer in water, in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; that it
sets forth the essential facts in redemption, namely, the death,
the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ; also, the essential
experience in the life of the Believer - his death to sin and resurrection
of newness of life. (Romans 6:4)
We
believe that the Lord's Supper is a commemoration of the Lord's
Death, and is to be observed as a memorial to Him until He comes
again. (1 Corinthians 11:26)
We
believe that the New Testament Church is a body of baptized Believers
associated for worship, and organized for service, pre-eminently
in the proclamation of the Gospel in all the world.
